Amber is fossilized, hardened pine resin formed in the Eocene period, about 50 million years ago. The largest deposits are found in Poland, Russia and The Dominican Republic. It has been used since prehistoric times for jewelry and religious objects and as a cure for various illnesses. Amber comes in many shades - from pale yellow to dark reddish brown.
