Fluorite, CaF2, has been called the most colorful mineral in the world. It occurs in almost every shade of the rainbow. When faceted, it makes a stunning gemstone. The hardness of fluorite is 4 on the mohs scale which limits its practical use in jewelry to pendants and earrings. Fluorite may show as many as four colors in the same gemstone.
