TURQUOISE
Turquoise is a valuable mineral with a color that ranges from greenish blue to sky blue shades. It is possibly the most valuable, non transparent mineral in the jewelry trade. It has been mined for thousands of years, dating back to the early Egyptians. Its history includes beautiful ornamental creations by Native Americans and Persians. Its popularity is still very strong today. Turquoise has a hardness of 5-6 on the Moh's scale with a triclinic crystal system. . The finest turquoise comes from Iran but is challenged by some southwestern United States specimens.  Notable occurrences include Arizona and New Mexico, USA; Australia; Iran; Afghanistan and other localities in the Middle East.  The name comes from a french word which means stone of Turkey, from where Persian material passed on its way to Europe.
