Sapphire, Al2O3, is the non red variety of corundum.  Sapphire is the birthstone for September.  The red variety of corundum is ruby.  The blue variety is by far the most popular, however sapphire gemstones come in almost every shade of the rainbow.  Corundum is the second hardest natural mineral known to man, being 9 on the mohs scale.   Linde star sapphires can be viewed by clicking HERE.
