SPESSARTITE GARNET  GEMSTONES

Garnet is the gemstone for January.  Garnet is a gemstone with many colors and varieties.  Under this heading, we will list only the spessartite garnet, commonly known as "mandarin" garnet.   Spessartite or spessartine is manganese aluminium garnet, Mn3Al2(SiO4)3.   Spessartite of a beautiful orange-yellow is found in Madagascar.  Violet-red spessartites are found in rhyolites in Colorado and Maine.
