DIASPORE GEMSTONES
Diaspore is a rare color changing gemstone mined only in one remote location in Turkey. In recent years it has been promoted under other exotic names that cannot be used here because it is a registered trademark). It is classed as a type II transparent gemstone by the G.I.A. It is generally free of visible inclusions. Diaspore is rated as a 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness, making it very wearable for all types of jewelry. It has a refractive index of 1.75 and a specific gravity of 3.39. "Diaspore" comes from the Greek word "diaspora" which means "to scatter". Diaspore has a natural color change, depending on the type of light exposure it will change from kiwi green to champagne to raspberry.
