Tanzanite, a variety of zoisite, is a relatively new gemstone discovered in Tanzania in 1967. Its blue/lavender color is rather unique making it a wonderful addition to the gemstone palette. Also in limited supply are zoisite in various shades of green and yellow. At present, there is a limited supply of this desirable gemstone, therefore a good investment stone. The only other stones that come close to tanzanites unique color are ceylon sapphire and iolite. The hardness of tanzanite is 6.5 to 7.0 on the mohs scale, adequate for normal jewelry. The refractive index is 1.68 to 1.72 and the crystal system is orthorhombic. More Tanzanite Information Here To view our finished tanzanite jewelry, click here.
