Moldavite is known as the crystal from outer space. The tektite Moldavite, is especially prized for its clarity and unique green color. It is the only known gemstone of extraterrestrial orgin. Moldavites are found in a strewnfield in the Moldau River Valley in former Czechoslovakia and are believed to have come from a meteor crater in Germany. This event occurred about 15 or 20 million years ago. The result of this meteor shower was this bottle green translucent gemstone, probably formed by the heat of the meteorites entering our atmosphere or colliding with the earths crust. Moldavia is the only location on earth that this gemstone is known to exist, making it more rare than rubies, emeralds or even diamonds.
The green Moldavites have been and continue to be used for stones in jewelry. We have a limited supply of these unique gemstones, some that were acquired from an old collection. We have the ability to mount these moldavite gemstones in jewelry or they can be purchased as loose gems. To view our loose moldavite gemstones, click here.
