SMOKEY QUARTZ GEMSTONES

Smokey quartz, SiO2, is the brown variety of quartz. It is very popular and is easily recognized by the general public although sometimes misnamed smokey topaz. It has a refractive index of 1.544 to 1.553 with a trigonal crystal system. The hardness is 7 on the mohs scale therefore it is very wearable for jewelry.
