EMERALD GEMSTONES

Emerald is the green variety of beryl, Be3A12Si6O18. Emerald is the birthstone for May.  It occurs in various shades of green and has a hardness of 7.5-8.0 on the mohs scale.  The crystal system is hexagonal.  The wonderful green color of emerald is unparalleled in the gem kingdom.  This color is caused by small amounts of cromium.  Unlike other beryls, emeralds often contain inclusions and other flaws.  These flaws are not looked on as negative aspects for emerald gemstones as they would be for other gemstones.  These flaws are considered to be a part of the stone and are used to assure the purchaser of a natural stone.  Our emeralds are mined in Brazil and Colombia.  To view some of our finished emerald jewelry, click here
